Barnes School, Devlali was founded on 29th January 1925 in memory of George Barnes who started the Bombay Education Society in 1815. All pupils are given a comprehensive course in value-based education. In addition to the broad-based education that is imparted here, the education provided is child centred and result oriented. Its mission is to provide meaningful educational experiences for children by inculcating trust, understanding, respect and a community culture, which facilitates life-long learning. The School consists of Classes Nursery to standard X (for boarders and day-students). It is a co-educational institute. The School follows the ICSE curriculum as laid down by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (ICSE), New Delhi.

The entire school campus occupies an area of 265 acres overlooking the river Darna and commanding a magnificent view of the Western Ghats. -
Devlali Cantonment market is about 7 kms away and Devlali Railway Station is about 6 kms away from the campus. -
The distance to Mumbai is about 180 km (approx. four hours by rail or road). -
The school consists of several blocks/buildings. The main ones being: - (a) Evan's Hall (b) Haig Brown - (girls' dormitories) (c) Lloyd Block - Nursery and Junior dormitories (d) Spence Block - (boys' Senior dormitories) (e) Candy Block - (boys' Senior dormitories). -
There is also staff accommodation within these buildings. -
The school Library is well equipped with books and resource material much needed by the students of today. It has computer and Internet facilities. It also has state of art Barcode detection system for students ID cards and for the classification of books. The Barnes School Chapel, The W. R. Coles Learning Center and twelve new staff quarters were inaugurated in June 2006.
